ISA, Police & The Judiciary

Abolish The ISA - The Undeclared Emergency!

The Internal Security Act (ISA) has been the most draconian law in this country. Thousands of people have been arrested without trial, tortured, humiliated and denied their rights to defend themselves. It has been used against leftists, politicians, trade union members, academics, students, NGO leaders, environmental activists, mother tongue activists, religious organizations, bloggers and many others. It cuts across race, religion and nationality.

There Is No More Hope For Justice In The Current System

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) would like to express our disappointment that former RMAF sergeant N Tharmendran had to retract his bail in order to protect himself from RMAF officers who were waiting outside the courtroom to harm him while a laptop belonging to senior counsel Manjeet Singh Dhillion was stolen from his house in Kuala Lumpur and it is believed to be linked to him representing controversial private investigator P Balasubramaniam in the Altantuya case.

Clear message to Najib - Abolish the ISA Now!

The forty thousand strong mobilisation today in Kuala Lumpur and the thousands who did not make it because of police road-blocks gave a very clear and precise message to the Prime Minister  Datuk Seri Najib Razak – repeal the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA).

The pro-ISA gathering fizzled out or was drowned by the immense anti-ISA gathering led by the Abolish ISA Movement – a coalition of 83 organisation including Parti Sosialis Malaysia.

No more excuses, form IPCMC now

, 26 Jan 2009

Malaysiakini, Jan 23 2009

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi must immediately form the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), said Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) today.

Following the latest custodial death involving a 22-year-old youth, the opposition party pointed out that there is just no more room for excuses or reasons.

No more delay, no more excuses. IPCMC Now!

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) views the death of A. Kugan under police custody as a serious crime and a violation to human rights, particularly the right to life under Article 5 of the Federal Constitution.

The death of A. Kugan is not an isolated case and it is the total failure of the Government to give protection to those kept under its custody. We are further angered by the fact that the Police are now trying to divert the issue from death in custody to tampering with evidence of the body of the victim. The CPO of Selangor Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar has also sort of concluded that the bruises in the body of the victim did not cause his death. With such kind of attitude, it would be useless and a waste of public funds to get the police to investigate this death. The CPO should be immediately disciplined for his action and removed completely from this case for interfering in the investigation.

PSM slams home minister's 'double standards'

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) lashed out at Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar over his 'double standards and lies' regarding the arrest of 21 participants in last Saturday's anti-war candlelight vigil.

Secretary-general S Arutchelvan said PSM was bemused at Syed Hamid's attempt to defend the police's action, claiming that it was a 'cheap stunt' aimed at creating 'disunity' among the people.

Cheap stunt by Syed Hamid Albar to defend Police action on anti-war vigil

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), one of the main organizer of the Coalition Against War (GAP-Gabungan Anti Perang) who organized five anti war vigil on Saturday, 10 January to highlight the plight of the sufferings in Gaza and Sri Lanka is amused by the way how the Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar goes out to defend the police' arrest of the 21 people at the candlelight vigil, saying that the demonstrators were not concerned with the issue of Israeli aggression. This is cheap stunt to create disunity among the people.

21 arrested at anti-war vigil

, 10 Jan 2009

Malaysiakini, 10 Jan 2009

The police have arrested 21 people, including Klang MP Charles Santiago and several top leaders of PSM, at an anti-war vigil at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.

The vigil was organised by Anti-War Coalition to show support to the victims of war and aggression in Palestine and Sri Lanka.

About 200 people had gathered at about 8pm for the vigil, which was declared illegal by the police who were also present at the venue.

CPO Khalid Must Be A Child Activist

I have been watching and monitoring the entire melodrama created by Selangor CPO, Khalid in the last one week over JERIT campaign. Now he has become the spokesperson to the Sultan to support his claim about misuse of children. Definitely Khalid must be a child activist!

Though he 'saved' 27 children in Rawang and then made them get wet in the rain for over 15 minutes and his men pointed gun at the children when they tried to seek shelter from the rain and that the children were put in a small meeting room overnight with the wet clothes on without proper ventilation and water supply or even space to sleep plus intimidation from his men from time to time, he truly has passions for the children.
