MB Selangor: "Kota Damansara Forest Will Be Gazetted in Three Months"

It was a very joyous occasion for residents of Kota Damansara when Selangor Menteri Besar announced that the Kota Damansara Forest would be re-gazetted in three months time.Tan Sri Khalid bin Ibrahim attended the Earth Day programme at the Kota Damansara Forest area.

Under the PJ Local Draft Plan 2 (RTPJ2) drafted by the previous BN administration, stated that about 40ha of forested area in Kota Damansara, which is part of the Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve, will be turned into a recreational area. This included the land that has been developed into a Muslim cemetery. It leaves only 26.9ha as the forest reserve. The rest would make way for development, including residential housing.

Friends of Kota Damansara (FOKD) a NGO fighting for the preservation of the Kota Damansara Forest Reserve organized the Earth Day event in conjunction with the International Earth Day on the 22nd April, 2008.

The event held at the Rozelle apartment hall just opposite the Forest Reserve attracted around 200 people from various residence associations and nature lovers. The event was co organized by the MBPJ, Petaling Jaya Local Council. The representative from MBPJ, Mr. Lee who is also the officer in charge of Local Agenda 21 explained diligently via his powerpoint how LA21 works and its benefits.

New Selangor assemblymen celebrate Earth Day with residents

NATURE lovers, residents and students thronged the Kota Damansara Community Forest Park to celebrate Earth Day recently.

Organised by Friends of Kota Damansara (FOKD) and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), more than 500 people turned up to show support for an environmental cause and to take part in the activities designed to bring awareness to the community about the rich eco-system in the park.

The Malaysian Nature Society was also involved in the event.

The highlight of the celebration was nature lovers hearing the views of newly-elected representatives - Bukit Lanjan state assemblyman Elizabeth Wong, Kota Damansara state assemblyman Dr Nasir Hashim and Subang MP S. Sivarasa - on the environment and what they would do to improve the current situation.

Talks on safeguarding the Kota Damansara forest

Dr.Nasir the socialist ADUN for Kota Damansara moved to fulfill his election pledge to safeguard the Kota Damansara (Sungai Buloh) Forest Reserve. During the election campaign, Dr.Nasir and Sivarasa, Subang Parliament Member signed the pledge to safeguard the forest from further destruction.

BN failed to save the Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve - a green lung

The Friends of Kota Damansara (FOKD) and the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) had a dialogue session on 2nd Mac 2008, with Dr Nasir the candidate for DUN Kota Damansara and Sdr.Sivarasa as the Parliament Subang candidate on the issue of Sungai Buloh Forest Reserve. About 70 people turned out for this dialogue session. These groups highlighted their case and displayed their frustrations toward the continues lies of BN led government.
