Dubbed a champion of the squatters, Kota Damansara assemblyman Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim is not your average politician. He happens to be an acupuncturist, too.
The white-haired social activist and former academician is sort of a maverick in the local political scene, and the Party Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) chairman’s strong beliefs and principles had often landed him in hot water. ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »

April 18, 2008 – There have been dramatic developments in Malaysia since the ruling National Front (Barisan Nasional – BN) government had its majority in parliament reduced sharply in general elections on March 8. Opposition parties, which won five out of 13 state governments, formed a new People’s Alliance (Pakatan Rakyat) on April 1. Police disrupted a large opposition rally on April 14 to mark the end of the government’s five year ban on opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim participating in politics. Anwar claimed at the rally he now has enough defections from government MPs to form a federal government but will not make the move until he increases his majority. At this stage, the People’s Alliance comprises the Justice Party (Parti Keadilan – PKR), the Islamic Party (PAS) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP).
Peter Boyle interviewed S. Arutchelvan, the secretary general of the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) on April 18. The PSM won a state and a federal seat in the recent election, running under the logo of the Justice Party because the government refused the PSM registration as a political party, having branded it a ‘threat to natonal security’. Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) mourn the death of fellow comrade, activist, academician Sdr. Rustam Sani who passed away early this morning.
Rustam has been a consinstent, critical political analyst. His views and thoughts on issues have always been progressive, well thought, rationale and with a strong foundation. He has been a very respected person among our circles and PSM hold him highly in getting his views, on many issues which involves history and the National Question.
At his funeral today, we were surprised to note when talking to some friends, that many did not realize that he was the son of the great Ahmad Boestaman, the founder member of API and Parti Rakyat. It is perhaps not Rustam style to ride on his father’s popularity but rather carve his own destination through his own work. ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »
