Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) stand in solidarity with the Orang Asli community and call upon the Government to honour the demands and plight of the Orang Asli – the Indigenous people in our land.
PSM is also angered by the comment of the Minister Shafie Apdal who said that the Orang Asli were not protesting but just sightseeing. This kind of comments shows the lack of respect on the part of the Minister and his attitude towards the plight of this community. ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is disappointed with the Federal Court Decision in declaring Zambry Abd Kadir of BN as the rightful Perak Menteri Besar. The decision has further consequences as this means a Ruler can override the verdict of the people in deciding who shall be the leader of the State or a country.
The decision also means that the democratic verdict of the people through an Election can be overruled by the ruler by degree without letting the Assemblyperson chosen by the people having a say.
This verdict will further strengthen our convictions that the courts are not independent when it comes to major decisions. This dangerous precedent will put Malaysian democracy and justice many steps backwards.

The PSM views the government’s current concern over the allocation of PTPTN loans as a piecemeal critique of a very wrong policy, that of privatized tertiary education.
The Higher Education Minister has been quoted as saying that the fund terms of the PTPTN would be reviewed to make sure only needy students would avail of it. This is not because the government has had a sudden change of heart favouring the poor. Rather in its typical cart before the horse style of doing business, it has discovered that PTPTN borrowers have defaulted to the tune of RM1 billion, and also that if not reviewed the government bill for private education will shoot up to RM5 billion by 2013.
What is needed is not a review of the PTPTN loan terms but a total revamp of the higher education system which has in great part been contracted out to private businessmen. ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »

PSM STATEMENT : 8 JANUARY 2010
PSM CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON CHURCHES ! NAJIB AND HISHAMUDDIN SHOULD TAKE FULL RESPONSIBLITY!
Parti Socialist Malaysia is shocked to learn that three churches have been attacked in the last 12 hours in the Klang Valley – the Assumption Church in Jalan Templer, Petaling Jaya and the Life Chapel in Section 17, Petaling Jaya and the Metro Tabernacle Church in Desa Melawati, Kuala Lumpur. The three-storey Metro Tabernacle church in Desa Melawati, Kuala Lumpur, part of the Assemblies of God movement, was set ablaze in the attack which took place around midnight.
We cannot deny the fact that the attacks are somehow related to the High Court ruling last week which ruled in favour of the Catholic weekly, The Herald newspaper, which has used ‘Allah’ as a translation for “God” in its Malay-language section. The ruling however was suspended on Wednesday pending an appeal by the government. ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »
2009 ended with a slide. Malaysia recorded a historical 56 position in the corruption index’s, its worst performance. And to prove the point, we had 2 gigantic aircraft engine disappearing from one of the most secure places in the country – the Sungai Besi air base. Now it is increasingly becoming difficult to spot which is the worst corruption case – PKFZ, the disappearing engines, the disappearing people, VK Lingam and list goes on.
The last week also saw yet another bas accident claiming ten lives and it tells us a lot about our enforcement, our commitment to cherish life. This incident is not in isolation, not to mention the deaths of school children from a newly constructed hanging bridge in Kampar. And what about death in custody – the death of Kugan and the death of Teoh Beng Hock. Will those responsible will ever be prosecute. ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »

Press Statement, 27 Nov
GST – Goods and Services Tax if implemented will not be a problem at for the 6% richest in the country, but it is certainly too much for the 70% poor and the rest!
PSM is disappointed with the BN Government for announcing their decision to go ahead with the regressive Goods and Services Tax or GST. One would have thought that even the BN would have more sense than to announce a tax that will further burden the poor at this point in time when we are in the midst of the worst recession since the 1930s, when more than 50 per cent of the people can’t make ends meet, while the Gini-coefficient is steadily deteriorating, signifying worsening inequality in income distribution.
