Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) wants the government to provide free higher education in Malaysia, as the cost of private education is a heavy financial burden for the majority of Malaysian students.
Party Deputy Secretary-General Rani Rasiah said that education is something that the government is duty bound to provide, just like healthcare and basic amenities.
“It should be the overriding priority of government to invest in and make available quality education for free. This is in the best interests of the nation.
“The role of providing such education can never be replaced by the private sector whose overriding motive is profit.” ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »

This morning around 70 people led by PSM National Chairperson Dr. Nasir Hashim and Deputy Chairperson M.Saraswathy submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister urging the Government to set up easy loan system to help the lower and middle income group.
Carrying a banner and chanting slogan such as urging Najib to replace to role of Along and ceti. Along and ceti are illegal loan sharks but for the poor, they are the only hope as the banks have failed them. Many lower income and lower middle class families have lost their property such as houses because they cannot repay the loan. Though the Central Bank bank have called for loan restructuring but it has failed to resolve the problems as Banks continue to put ridiculous conditions to the borrowers. ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is disappointed with the Federal Court Decision in declaring Zambry Abd Kadir of BN as the rightful Perak Menteri Besar. The decision has further consequences as this means a Ruler can override the verdict of the people in deciding who shall be the leader of the State or a country.
The decision also means that the democratic verdict of the people through an Election can be overruled by the ruler by degree without letting the Assemblyperson chosen by the people having a say.
This verdict will further strengthen our convictions that the courts are not independent when it comes to major decisions. This dangerous precedent will put Malaysian democracy and justice many steps backwards.

ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »
Pengenalan
ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »
The PSM views the government’s current concern over the allocation of PTPTN loans as a piecemeal critique of a very wrong policy, that of privatized tertiary education.
The Higher Education Minister has been quoted as saying that the fund terms of the PTPTN would be reviewed to make sure only needy students would avail of it. This is not because the government has had a sudden change of heart favouring the poor. Rather in its typical cart before the horse style of doing business, it has discovered that PTPTN borrowers have defaulted to the tune of RM1 billion, and also that if not reviewed the government bill for private education will shoot up to RM5 billion by 2013.
What is needed is not a review of the PTPTN loan terms but a total revamp of the higher education system which has in great part been contracted out to private businessmen. ARTIKEL PENUH (MORE) »

Humane and Ethical Treatment for Sri Lankan Asylum Seekers
The PSM is concerned for the safety and well-being of the 207 Sri Lankan asylum-seekers who are being held at the Immigration Detention Centre at the KL International Airport as well as the 108 Sri Lankan refugees detained at Pekan Nanas Immigration Detention Centre
According to our sources, there are 15 women and 6 children among these 207 Sri Lankans who were picked up at a road-block in Batu Pahat 10 days ago before being transported to the KLIA for detention. Out of the 108 people detained at Pekan Nenas Immigration Detention Centre, there are 10 women and 10 children. One of the women is in her 8th month of pregnancy. It was also reported that the Sri Lankan Embassy, including the Deputy High Commissioner were forcing a group of Sri Lankan refugees to sign agreements for repatriation. The refugees refused to sign the agreements and the embassy personnel assaulted them by beating and kicking them to force them to sign the agreement.
