Dataran Seremban, Negri Sembilan
The police warned and stopped us against doing the one procession we planned for this year’s May day so we ended up doing three. Workers came from three fronts to the Dataran Seremban, the venue for this year’s May day celebration. It was the first time that the May Day celebration was done in Negeri Sembilan since May 1st. committee started organizing May Day since 1994.
Around 500 people gathered in blazing hot weather today to honor the 123 year old workers uprising in industrial countries such as Europe and United States. Many workers and young comrades of all races and political believes were brought together by 1st Mei Committee comprised of JERIT (Oppressed People’s Network), PSM (Party Socialist Malaysia) and local organizers from all parties to tell the world as well as our own Malaysian government that it is the workers which needed to be saved and not their cronies. The theme of this year’s May day was ECONOMY CRISIS: SAVE THE WORKERS, NOT THE CRONIES. Similar voices were heard all over the world as the class struggle intensifies between the classes – the capitalist and the workers.

This morning, leaders of Parti Sosialis Malaysia led by National Chairperson Dr. Nasir Hashim and Deputy Chairperson M.Saraswathy handed a seven point memorandum to the Minister, Dato S. Subramaniam.
The meeting started with Party’s Secretary General S. Arutchelvan thanking the Minister for the meeting, as before this, only a demonstration outside the Ministry would get some senior officials to attend to the memorandum. The Minister replied that he was exposing us to a new culture.

The government should not wait until the economy fulfills all the technical requirements of a recession before taking emergency measures to alleviate the plight of Malaysians, said Parti Sosialis Malaysia.

Dengan penambahan peruntukan sebanyak RM 20 bil yang di hadapan kita hari ini, badget kerajaan untuk tahun ini telah meningkat ke RM 150 bil. Ini merupakan 30% daripada Keluaran Kasar Dalam Negara atau GDP negara kita.
Penglibatan kerajaan Malaysia dalam ekonomi negara adalah besar. Di negara Thailand Badget Kerajaan hanya 20% daripada GDP negara Thai. Pada 6hb. Julai 2008, sejarah tidak dapat dicipta. Perhimpunan rakyat tidak dapat memobilisasi 1 juta rakyat mahupun tidak dapat mengatasi angka yang dicapai semasa perhimpunan BERSIH pada 10hb. November 2008 mahupun perhimpunan HINDRAF pada 25hb. November 2007. Malah dua-dua perhimpunan tadi tidak diadakan dalam stadium malah kedua perhimpunan tersebut digertak lebih teruk daripada perhimpunan PROTES malah sekatan jalan pun lebih banyak, lebih menyusahkan orang dan tindakan polis pula lebih zalim dan lebih keras. Around 200 people participated in a peaceful protest against the oil hike and the increase in all basic necessities at Jalan Semenyih, right in front of Shell and Petronas station. Rakyat Malaysia telah dikejutkan pada 4 Jun 2008 apabila kerajaan Barisan Nasional mengumumkan kenaikan harga minyak sebanyak 78 sen. Ini merupakan satu peningkatan 40.6% daripada harga sebelum ini.
Kerajaan BN juga telah mengumumkan satu polisi baru di mana pengguna kereta kurang daripada 2000cc akan diberi RM600 setahun sementara penunggang motosikal pula diberi RM120 setahun. Polisi baru ini adalah kononnya untuk membantu rakyat kurang berada. Namun demikian, jika perhitungan mudah dibuat, elaun ini jelas tidak cukup untuk menampung kos kenaikan yang begitu ketara.
